2016 AMERICAS IT SUMMIT & HITEC 50 AWARDS LUNCHEON HIGHLIGHTS
HITEC Leaders convened in Downtown Miami, Florida on April 20-21 for the 2016 Americas IT Summit & HITEC 50 Luncheon.
The two-day event was sold out and featured a great lineup of technology leaders from across the world.

The Summit opened with the inaugural HITEC Women’s Breakfast sponsored by Accenture. The 90-minute session included a panel and workshop focused on preparing and positioning the current and next generation of women leaders for continuous advancement. The panel was comprised of four successful Hispanic women in high-profile IT leadership roles. They discussed their career journeys, and shared the strategies that got them where they are today. The key take-aways were:

A majority of the Summit was dedicated to presentations, discussions and fireside chats focused on technology trends and key topics including Human Performance Computing (HPC) and Digital Transformation and Experience.
Highlights from the Summit included
- Fireside Chat with Therace Risch, Chief Information Officer at JCPenney responsible for the overall IT vision, strategic direction, and technical execution. Risch shared her strategy for positioning the organization to be successful in the digital age. She also talked about the challenge of fitting legacy systems into fast changing online applications and what they are doing to differentiate themselves in the online shopping experience for their customers. HITEC is proud to welcome JCPenney as a Platinum Sponsor and host of the Q1, 2017 Summit in Dallas, Texas.
- HITEC’s version of TED Talks, Tech Exec Rapid Fire, featured Guillermo Ardon, Group CIO for Supply Chain and Vice President, Johnson & Johnson, Monica McManus, Vice President, Applications and CIO, Enterprise Operations Lockheed Martin International and Charles Grau, Chief Information Officer, United Data Corporation.
Fireside Chat with Raquel “Rocky” Egusquiza, VP, Community Affairs Comcast NBCUniversal, Telemundo Enterprises and Jeff Mayzurk, CTO, Studio Operations, Comcast NBCUniversal, Inc. shared their vision and plans to build a state-of-the-art global headquarters in Miami. NBCUniversal and parent company Comcast will invest more than $250M in the construction of the division’s new global headquarters.
- Jorge Titinger, President, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member, Silicon Graphics International (SGI), delivered a dynamic opening Keynote speech. Focusing on why High Performance Computing (HPC) is so important to humanity, Titinger’s presentation was delivered with his unique sense of humor that kept the audience deeply engaged.
A riveting cyber security panel was led by Alberto Yepez, HITEC Chairman and Managing Director, Trident Capital. Panelists included: Brian Arellanes, Chief Executive Officer, ITSourceTek, Inc; Gary Eppinger, Global Chief Information Security Officer and Privacy Officer, Carnival Corporation & pcl; Dr. Yonesy Nunez, SVP, Information Security Leader – Wholesale & International, Wells Fargo and Eduardo Perez, SVP, Payment System Risk, Visa. A discussion on Digital Transformation and Experience led by David Clarke, CxO & Principal, PwC, challenged attendees to change they way they approach innovation. Clarke said, “You can’t just do innovation projects anymore. It has to be in your company’s DNA.”
Marcos Jimenez, CEO Softtek USA and HITEC Advisory Board Member delivered a thought provoking presentation on IT Transformation. “The new digital marketplace is driving an unprecedented need for organizations to transform,” said Jimenez.
